Completed Projects
The Rebuild Great Guana Cay Foundation completed projects on three focus areas by rebuilding structures that form and define the community and by repairing key roadways that connect and protect the island’s inhabitants. 100% of funds raised by the Great Guana Cay Foundation went toward rebuilding the island’s vital infrastructure, including the community dock, community center, school, and waste debris.
Looking ahead, the island is in a much better place and will be able to provide
sustainable infrastructure for locals and visitors to enjoy for years to come.
Community Dock
The new community dock is complete thanks to our donors and partners! The dock was built with larger, stronger materials, so it should last for many years.
Thank you to Alan Childress, Abaco Marine Construction, and Roger Caplinger for the labor and equipment to install the pilings and rebuild the dock, and to those who covered the costs to ship the equipment from the United States and for funding the last phase of the dock and adding the features necessary to make the dock more user-friendly.
Waste & Debris Management
The Foundation worked with Samaritan’s Purse for many months to manage the debris clean up. The project is complete and over 2 million tons of debris has been removed from the island.
Not only did the massive amounts of debris from Hurricane Dorian get cleaned up, but the island grew spiritually and there's a new sense of community. Our past church attendance was as low as a dozen people, but with the inspirational services led by Samaritan’s Purse, attendance has grown dramatically, and remains strong even now that they are on longer on the island.
William Splitgerber and Sid Langley were amazing, but enough can't be said about the volunteers who came with their labor and encouragement.
Community Center
The former school building is up and running as a school and will also serve as a hurricane shelter.
George Nowak - The Barefoot Man - and his fellow musicians held The Hope for Abaco Holiday Benefit Concert and raised $45,240 for this project, which was matched. Thank you Erich Sitko, Nick Otton & Tony DeCristofaro, and all the fans who made this happen.
